On Thursday 29th April, Regent Queen Dlamini-Zulu passed away at the age of 65, just a month after being named Regent Queen, following her late husband King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu’s death on 12th March.
She was appointed Regent Queen as per her late husband’s wishes.
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, traditional prime minister of the Zulu nation, spoke in an exclusive interview with SABC, just before her passing. He asked that people respect the family’s mourning period for the king, and not speculate about allegations and the throne.
Allegations that the queen had been poisoned when she fell ill two years prior to her death are, as it stands, just rumours.
Later that evening Prince Buthelezi announced her passing, and condolences poured in.
We extend our condolences to the Royal Family and the Zulu Nation of South Africa.
